Cockermouth Scottish Country Dancers Have a Grand Day Out

On Saturday 9th July eleven Cockermouth dancers attended the 62nd White Rose Festival in Leeds. This non-competitive, massed Scottish Country Dancing event, attracts groups from all over the UK.
Weather permitting, this is usually an outside event, but approaching the venue, with gathering clouds above us, we knew it would be indoors this year.
Imagine our surprised delight on entering the sports hall to find it decked with swathes of cream voile floating down from the ceiling and around the sides, with up-lighters and ceiling lights too. The room was warm but the acoustics were superb.
With spirits raised, we had an enjoyable afternoon participating in dances and demonstrations. We also watched highland dancing accompanied by the pipes.
Young dancers joined us for the evening and approximately 200 people danced to a live band. The energy inside was electric and kept us, quite literally, on our toes all evening.
We are a lively, friendly group with a steadily increasing membership of fifty. We welcome new dancers, visitors and holiday makers on a regular basis and in September we are thrilled to be opening our doors to young people on Monday evenings.
